Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao retains GLORY Kickboxing featherweight title via majority draw after a five-round rematch against Kevin Vannostrand

Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao and Kevin Vannostrand squared off for the second time in the headliner of GLORY 72. The event took place at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL on November 24 (AEST). The contest featured the reigning featherweight kickboxing king up against the former interim titleholder in the division.

The scheduled for five rounds encounter went a full distance and ended in favor of the champion. Yet, only one judge had a scorecard in favor of Petchpanomrung, while two others declared a draw, which was a result of a point deduction.

“As energies waned in later rounds, Petchpanomrung found himself increasingly entering into clinches. He received several warnings for this before receiving a point deduction in the final round. That deduction changed what would have been a unanimous decision win into a Majority Draw,” reads the event recap sent out by the promotion.

Ultimately, the verdict heard a majority draw: 48-46, 47-47, 47-47.

Petchpanomrung retained the belt for the third time and updated his record to 164-36-2, 27 KO. Vannostrand, who came short twice, dropped to 19-4, 12 KO.

Their first bout in July 2018 also went a five-round distance and resulted in a split decision in favor of Petchpanomrung, who earned the interim belt. The Thai champion claimed the undisputed title against Robin van Roosmalen in his following bout in September the same year.

In the co-main event Ryot Waller took the win via extra-round split decision against Chris Camozzi at light heavyweight. Among other bouts, former women’s super bantamweight kickboxing champion Jady Menezes stopped Chommanee Sor Taehiran in the third round.

The event was the culmination of two-part program the promotion produced over the weekend. The first show billed as GLORY 71, took place a day earlier at the same venue, featuring Tiffany van Soest reclaiming super bantamweight title against Anissa Meksen in their third encounter.
