Two-time champion Jon Jones is scheduled for his third light heavyweight title defense on February 9 (AEST). “Bones” faces his American-fellow Dominick “The Devastator” Reyes in a five-round championship bout, which headlines UFC Houston pay-per-view fight card. The number is yet to be set. The event takes place at Toyota Center, the promotion announced on Wednesday.
Jon Jones (25-1, 1NC) is a two-time UFC light heavyweight titleholder. In his previous bout in July he retained the belt by split decision against Thuago Santos. In March he scored a unanimous decision against Anthony Smith, following the third-round stoppage win against Alexander Gustafsson in the fight for a vacant title.
The belt was relinquished by former champion Daniel Cormier. Jones fought “DC” twice and KO’d his in the third round of their second championship bout in July 2017. The verdict was overturned after “Bones” tested positive for turinabol.
Dominick Reyes (12-0) is undefeated in 12 bouts. Last month he stopped Chris Weidman in the first round of the fight which earned “Performance of the Night” bonus. Prior the that “The Devastator” took a split decision against former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir, and a unanimous decision against former interim title challenger Ovince Saint Preux.
The co-main event at UFC Houston features the defending women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko up against challenger Katlyn Chookagian in a five-round women’s MMA contest. Also on the night, Derrick Lewis and Ilir Latifi square off in a three-round battle at heavyweight.
