Two heavyweight battles have been added to the upcoming UFC pay-per-view fight card, held at Toyota Center in Houston, TX on February 9 (AEST). The contests feature Derrick Lewis up against Ilir Latifi and Juan Adams faces off Justin Tafa, the promotion announced on Wednesday.
Derrick Lewis (22-7, 1 NC) is a former UFC heavyweight title challenger. In his previous bout early November the American mixed martial artist took a split decision against Blagoy Ivanov. Before that he was stopped by Junior dos Santos in Round 2, and submitted by former champion Daniel Cormier in the second round of the championship bout. Prior to that “The Black Beast” was riding a three-fight win streak, including the victories against Alexander Volkov, Francis Ngannou and Marcin Tybura.
Ilir Latifi (14-7) makes his heavyweight debut. The Swedish fighter lost two of his previous bouts at light heavyweight, by knockout in the second round against Volkan Oezdemir and by unanimous decision against Corey Anderson. Before that “The Sledgehammer” submitted Ovince Saint Preux in the first round and defeated Tyson Pedro by unanimous decision.
Juan Adams (5-2) is coming off two defeats. In July Houston-native was stopped by Greg Hardy in the first round. In May he dropped a unanimous decision against Arjan Bullar. Before that “The Kraken” was unbeaten in five outings, including a successful UFC debut via third-round TKO against Chris de la Rocha last December.
Justin Tafa (3-1) made his promotional debut at UFC 243 in October when he was KO’d by Yorgan De Castro. Earlier in his career the Australian competitor defeated David Taumoepeau, Jeremy Joiner and Dylan Tiaaleaiga.
