Paul Felder faces Dan Hooker in UFC Auckland main event

The headline-bout for UFC Auckland Fight Night has been set. The contest features Paul Felder and Dan Hooker, squaring off at lightweight, the promotion announced on Thursday. MMA event (likely on ESPN+) takes place at Spark Arena on February 23, 2020, marking the return of Ultimate Fighting Championship to New Zealand.

Paul Felder (17-4) won two of his previous bouts. In September the 35-year-old American mixed martial artist took a split decision, as well as the revenge, against Edson Barboza. Mid February he defeated James Vick by unanimous decision. In July 2018 “The Irish Dragon” went up against Mike Perry at welterweight and suffered the defeat by split decision, which snapped his three-fight win streak.

The representative of the country-host Dan Hooker (19-8) is also riding the two-fight win streak. At the recent UFC 243 in Melbourne the 29-year-old competitor earned a unanimous decision against Al Iaquinta. In July he knocked out Vick in the first round. Last December “The Hangman”suffered the third-round stoppage defeat against Barboza. Prior to that he won fought fights in a row.

The resume of both competitors includes a number of “Performance of the Night” bonuses.

Among other bouts expected on the night, Russian mixed martial artist Magomed Mustafaev (15-2) announced his lightweight bout against former Muay Thai and kickboxing champion turned UFC fighter, local Brad Riddell (7-1). The contest is yet to be confirmed by the promotion.

Additional bouts for UFC Auckland fight card are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
