UFC Auckland Fight Night takes place at Spark Arena on February 23. The event is headlined by Paul Felder and Dan Hooker, squaring off at lightweight. A series of additional bouts joined the event on Thursday, featuring Tyson Pedro, Jake Matthews, among others.
Tyson Pedro vs. Vinicius Moreira
Among the bouts Tyson Pedro (7-3) faces Vinicius Moreira (9-4) at light heavyweight.
The Australian mixed martial artist suffered two defeats in a row against Mauricio Rua and Ovince Saint Preux. His most recent win to date was in February 2018, when he submitted Saparbek Safarov in the first round at UFC 221.
The Brazilian competitor lost three of his previous bouts in the first round. In September he was submitted by Paul Craig, following a pair of defeats via first-round stoppage against Eryk Anders and Alonzo Menifield. Prior to that he was riding the five-fight win streak.
Jake Matthews vs. Emil Meek
Another Australian fighter Jake Matthews (15-4) takes on Emil Meek (9-4, 1 NC) of Norway at welterweight.
“The Celtic Kid” won his previous bout at UFC 243 in October by unanimous decision against Rostem Akman. Last December Matthews was submitted by Anthony Rocco Martin in Round 3, which snapped his three-fight win streak.
“Valhalla” is coming off two defeats by unanimous decision against Bartosz Fabinski and Kamaru Usman. Earlier he won four fights in a row against Jordan Mein, Rousimar Palhares, among others.
Ben Sosoli vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima
In addition, Ben Sosoli (7-2, 2 NC) of Australia battles it out against Marcos Rogerio de Lima (16-6-1) of Brazil at heavyweight.
“Combat Wombat” last fought in October when he dropped a unanimous decision against Greg Hardy. The verdict was overturned and ruled “No Contest” after use of an inhaler in between rounds. Prior that Sosoli faced Dustin Joynson at Dana White’s Contender Series in a bout that was also declared “No Contest” due to eye poke in Round 1.
“Pezao” is coming off the defeat by submission in the second round against Stefan Struve. Before that Rogerio de Lima earned a unanimous decision against Adam Wieczorek.
