Yohan Lidon gets new opponent for his WKN super middleweight title defense, Giorgi Kankava
Yohan Lidon received a new opponent for his fifth WKN super middleweight title defense scheduled for December 14 at Palais des Sports in Saint-Fons (commune in the Metropolis of Lyon). The French champion faces the Georgian competitor Giorgi Kankava, who took the fight on a ten-day notice, replacing Armenian-Bulgarian Eduard Aleksanyan due to VISA issue, World Kickboxing Network announced on Wednesday (via Twitter). The contest headlines the event titled “La Nuit des Challenges 19”.
The current champion Yohan Lidon earned a vacant WKN super middleweight title by knockout in the fourth round against Karapet Karapetyan in 2016. In his most recent, fourth championship defense in August 2018, the protegee of Nasser Kacem retained his belt as well as took the revenge against Yoann Kongolo.
A year earlier, Lidon knocked out Florian Kroger in Round 4. Prior to that the 36-year-old “Lumberjack” successfully defended his belt by unanimous decision against Danijel Solaja and Patrik Vidakovics.
Kankava fought the likes of Edi Shehaj, Nika Bugulashvili, and others. In addition to kickboxing he has tried himself in professional boxing, yet battled it into a draw with Irakli Zubiashvili, and suffered the defeat against Lado Gabisonia. In one of his previous bouts this past July, the representative of Jiki Gym in Tbilisi went a full three-round distance with the reigning WKN European middleweight champion Zaur Dzhavadov.
The Lidon vs. Kankava championship bout is scheduled for five rounds.
The fight card of the upcoming show also includes the four-fight Muay Thai lineup featuring Team France up against Team Thailand. Two-style WKN super featherweight champion Brandon Vieira faces Kongmuangtai, Antar Kacem takes on Phetkoksak, Hakim Hamech squares off against Plangrith, and Abdelnour Ali Kada battles it out against Attapong.
Also on the night local Yassine Hamlaoui faces Viorel Vyntu of Italy in a three-round 60 kg catchweight Muay Thai bout, and Anthony Leroy and Pascal Toure do French kickboxing battle at 90 kg. In addition, local Lindsey Thomas and Tanja Moos of Switzerland meet in a three-round women’s kickboxing 52 kg encounter.
