Andy Ruiz Jr (33-1, 22 KO) defends his heavyweight titles vs former champion Anthony Joshua (22-1, 21 KO) in the championship rematch on December 8 (AEDT). The contest headlines the fight card, billed as “Clash on the Dunes”, taking place at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
At the weigh-in ceremony hosted by Michael Buffer a day before the event, the competitors stepped on the scales to make it official. Joshua was first to weigh-in, showing 107.5 kg (237 lbs). Ruiz came in at 128.68 kg (283.7 lbs) – 6.8 kg (15 lbs) heavier than he was in their first bout.
The Ruiz vs Joshua 2 championship bout is scheduled for twelve rounds. The WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles are on the line.
The pair first met early June at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Then undefeated champion from the UK, Anthony Joshua was making his US debut. The representative of the country-host, Ruiz was a replacement challenger, after several other opponents fell off. The fight ended in favor of the latter, who claimed the win as well as the titles via stoppage in Round 7.
