GLORY Kickboxing returned to China last night (Dec. 7) with the event No. 73 held at Nanshan Culture and Sports Center in Shenzhen. The headline-bout featured the reigning lightweight champion Marat Grigorian making the second defense of his belt against the 23-fight undefeated challenger Elvis Gashi.

The championship bout didn’t go the full distance. Grigorian retained his belt, scoring the win by knockout in the fifth round with left hook on the last minute of the fight.

“It was a good fight but I knew I would win,” Marat Grigorian said post-fight. “He never faced anyone of my level before and tonight you saw the difference. Whoever wants to try next is welcome, it makes no difference to me – the belt is staying with me no matter what.”

Ultimately, Grigorian made the second successful defense of his title and updated his record to 63-11-1, 1 NC, 36 KO. Gashi suffered the first defeat in his professional kickboxing career and dropped to 23-1, 11 KO.

Also on the night Josh Jauncey took the second win against Stoyan Koprivlenski. As well as their fight in March 2018, the rematch went a full three-round distance and ended in a split decision.

In addition, River Daz won the Ramon Dekkers’ four-man Asian featherweight tournament, taking a split decision against Goafeng Meng in the final, after scoring a unanimous decision against Binqian Hu in the opening bout. The complete GLORY 73 results can be found below.
