Alistair Overeem suffered the defeat by knockout in the fifth round against Jairzinho Rozenstruik this past weekend at UFC on ESPN 7 in Washington, D.C. Not only he was dropped only four seconds prior to the final bell of the fight, in which he was likely a favorite on the judges’ scorecards, he has suffered one of the most gruesome lip injuries ever seen in MMA. Even worse than this one.

“Getting stitched up. Lip not to sexy at the moment.. a little bit a fast stoppage if u ask me – but hope u guys enjoyed the fight [sic],” Alistair Overeem posted on Twitter after the fight.

“The Demolition Man” had to undergo an emergency plastic surgery. It went well, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reported (via Twitter).

“Alistair Overeem had successful plastic surgery on his lip last night, according to his team. He’s back resting at the hotel,” Helwani wrote.

Alistair Overeem is a former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, DREAM heavyweight champion and the winner of K-1 World Grand Prix. The defeat against Rozenstruik snapped his two-fight win streak and dropped to 45-18, 1 NC.

His last appearance inside the squared circle as a kickboxer was in December 2010 in Tokyo, Japan. Overeem won three fights in one night, eliminating fellow-legends Tyrone Spong, Gokhan Saki and Peter Aerts, to become K-1 World Grand Prix champion. He retired from kickboxing on top, riding the five-fight win streak.
