Middleweight bout between John Phillips of Wales, UK and Jun Yong Park of Korea is a latest addition to UFC Fight Night card scheduled for October 17. The promotion official added the matchup on Friday.
John Phillips (22-10, 1 NC) was last in action this past July, when he suffered the defeat by submission in the second round against Khamzat Chimaev. Prior to that he stopped Alen Amedovski in the first round, which was his first win in the UFC, after he lost three bouts in a row since joining the promotion.
In his previous bout last December Jun Yong Park (11-4) scored a unanimous decision against Marc-Andre Barriault, which was his second appearance inside the Octagon and also the first win in UFC. On his debut he was submitted by Anthony Hernandez in Round 2.
While not officially announced, the UFC Fight Night card on October 17 is expected to be headlined by Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung aka “The Korean Zombie”. The pair was initially set for an event in December 2019, but the contest didn’t go ahead after Ortega suffered knee injury, and was replaced by Frankie Edgar, who was stopped in the first round.
The location accommodating the event is yet to be determined. “Fight Island” on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE is likely being a potential host, given an announced number of international competitors.
